Last week I was teaching a portrait workshop in Sante Fe

I had been there once before, but this time I was hosted by Bluebird Studios and it was the best venue ever.  Beth and Billy Cooper built the facility on their ranch and run amazing workshops with artists from all over the country. I thought I would share a few pics. I felt like a queen in their comfy casita while looking out at wonderful sunsets each day. Our model, Raven, was a professional model and he was very fun to paint. I took the class through understanding light and Larry the Light Beam as well as my 5-layer approach to layering pastels. On the last day I did a portrait of Raven along with everyone in the class. I even got to paint Billy for an entire 15 minutes (that was all the time he gave me! Challenge accepted…) to show how the yelloW stage can achieve a likeness really fast. Of course, everyone had fun with yellow after that. We all had a great time and visited many galleries and cool restaurants in Sante Fe. We also got to visit the studio of master artist, Albert Handell. Very cool!

Everyone said their brain hurt by the time the workshop was over- so I know I did my job. I am looking forward to going back and teaching again soon, so look for that.

Next year I will be leading a plein air group to Sedona at a cool spot with many walking and hiking and painting trails. Look for those dates to be posted soon.

Next week I am back to painting on my sons’ portrait.
