I am writing this at 3 am. Wide awake and packed. Later today I head to Italy for my workshop in Cortona. So slowly I have been rotating my sleep schedule to get more on “Italian time.”
Last week I missed posting my blog because I came back from Indianapolis sick. Nothing more annoying, but I guess it helped me rotate my sleep schedule since I was up a lot at night coughing and swearing about germs on planes. I feel better this morning just in time to get on a few more planes. I have also been fighting a staph infection and 2 days ago I broke my little toe packing art supplies for Italy. No stopping me though. I have always wanted to go to Tuscany and it is now happening. What started out as a way to deflect a bit of sadness over the fact that my son is now off at college and being a true empty-nester turned into a bucket list cross-off.
So cool.
So as I write this I am also considering my future trips- Sedona in March. Dominica and Ireland and New Zealand are on the horizon. With a little luck I can make those work too. Be on the lookout for those dates and come paint with me for the joy of it.
Like I mentioned in my last blog, last weekend I was at the “Quest for the West” exhibition in Indianapolis, so here are some pics from the show. It was truly amazing and inspirational. And I helped my friend acquire some new work. The Eiteljorg Museum is world-class and its permanent collection is breathtaking and the paintings at Quest sold for tens of thousands of dollars with the total sales from the first weekend amounting to more that 1.1 million dollars. I sat among serious collectors and heard them talk of their love for their favorite artists. How collecting work brought joy to their lives. In the end, it reminded me that it is all just paint- and the artists vision. There is no magic happening here. Just dedication to craft and clear humanity behind the paintings.
So with these images in my mind I’ll be in Tuscany painting this week with my students. I will be teaching, yes, but also painting for the pure joy of it. (good Italian wine will help) I will post some photos from there online and after I get back.
Ciao!
Safe travels and happy painting
Best wishes for improved health and a great workshop.
Exciting! You have it all under control.
All the paintings are interesting in their own way. I particularly like the bison ( or buffalo ) with its young calf.
Once a mother always a mother.
Although you miss the company, remember youth grows when they leave their parent.
But also parents grow when they accept the grown offspring. New horizons are part of aging!
So glad you could share some of the work with us! I love the West and would love to get back and spend some time painting. Thank you. Beautiful paintings!!!!
Sorry that you are going thru mishaps , but I’m wishing you the VERY BEST Experiences coming up … WOW !! lots of great places & things to see & paint !
ENJOY !!!!
The Eiteljorg also has the second best Indian Market each June, second only to Santa Fe.
I was involved in the museum when I lived in Cincinnati.
🙂
