“Follow follow follow follow,
Follow the yellow brick road”
-“Yip” Harburg for the Wizard of Oz
So where was I ..oh yes…following the yellow…
This painting got put on the back burner for the last few weeks due to travel and events. Life, eh? But before I did I was starting to slowly build glazes of color over top of my trusty yellow layer. Moving up from the arm and across the rest of the figure.
Here are a few pics from that stage. Still no eyes or real details yet and still figuring out that background. Maybe a few tall lit weeds? Maybe more rock texture? I constantly remind myself that the natural light source here is cool and so the void (the shadow shapes created by the void of light) then will be warm. This is Rule of Light #3 with regards to temperature reversals. (It is physics) So as his skintones more toward the light they get cooler. It is always hard to see clear colors in my photographs (as I am still working from photos at this point) and I feel there are still a few drawing errors – shoulder too big and chest a bit wonky, but I know when I move to working from life it will all get fixed. Soon after this my son starts to pose for me outside in the sun. You should see me dragging my oil paints and easel out in the grass outside my studio…
My son is so patient with me….
More on the development next week.
